Position: Animal Control Officer (Part Time)

Job Type: Part-Time (20 Hours Per Week)
Salary: Entry $14.71 per hour
After 90 days, $16.05 per hour
After 1 year, $18.65 per hour
Position Summary:
The Town of Dyer seeks a dedicated and compassionate Animal Control Officer to join our Animal Control. This role is responsible for enforcing animal-related laws and ordinances, ensuring the safety of the public and animals, and promoting responsible pet ownership within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
• Respond to service calls regarding stray, injured, aggressive, or neglected animals.
• Capture, transport, and care for animals in a humane and safe manner.
• Investigate reports of animal cruelty, neglect, bites, and dangerous animals.
• Issue warnings or citations for violations of animal control ordinances.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on incidents and enforcement activities.
• Assist in shelter operations, including feeding, cleaning, and caring for animals.
• Educate the public on animal laws, safety, and responsible pet ownership.
• Appear in court as needed to testify in cases involving animal law violations.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior experience working with animals is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to handle animals safely and confidently, including those that may be aggressive.
• Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and handle physical tasks.
Work Schedule:
• Flexible adaptive scheduling and occasional on-call emergencies.
