We are actively seeking a Community Outreach Educator.
The pay range for this position is $70,000 to $86,000/year (DOE)

Travel: up to 25%, Southern California
Location: Covina, CA - 3 days remote, 2 days onsite.
Schedule: 40-hour workweek, five days per week, with occasional weekends and evenings required.

JOB SUMMARY

Our preferred candidate would assist the Masonic Outreach Service Team (MOS) by managing and growing our volunteer Outreach Program, including case consultation, training volunteers, and mentoring interns.

The Community Outreach Educator is a member of the Masonic Outreach Services Department (MOS), which supports elderly Masons and their families in safely living at home and within their communities. Services offered include case management, care planning, financial assistance, shared housing, and information and referrals for community resources.

The Community Outreach Educator manages the Lodge Outreach program for southern California, which trains volunteers on conducting outreach efforts in their communities and how to help those in need access the many relief programs offered by Masonic Home.

This position is exempt and reports to the Manager of Outreach and Education.

About Us:

Masonic Homes operates two retirement homes, one in Union City and another in Covina. Additionally, it offers outreach and youth programs that support hundreds of families, both with and without Masonic affiliation.

Our campus is home to about 80 residents who live in comfortable one-bedroom apartments designed for independent and assisted living. Residents choose the Masonic Home at Covina for its intimate setting, vibrant quality of life, and, perhaps most of all, the sense of community created by fellow residents and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Training:
    • The Community Outreach Educator will travel throughout southern California, facilitating training with local lodge leadership and a network of volunteers to educate them on the services offered through the Masonic Homes and MOS.
    • Learn the basic functionality and purpose of the Breezie tablet program, a platform used to serve MOS clients. Provide group training sessions and guide interns through similar tasks.
  • Educator :
    • Fulfills speaking engagements at Lodges and Masonic events in sourthern CA, including Lodge Outreach training and meetings, Lodge meetings, and Leadership retreats
  • Curriculum Design:
    • Responsible for creating and enhancing instructional materials and curriculum to educate Masons and others involved in Lodge Outreach about Masonic relief and external assistance programs, such as Veterans Aid & Attendance and Medi-Cal. The goal is to ensure they can effectively share information with members and families in distress. Additionally, the role includes establishing and teaching best practices.
    • Develops engaging audiovisual and social media materials for training and use among peers.
  • Volunteer Outreach Program Management:
    • Support, guide, and engage individual Lodges and area Masons in regional Lodge Outreach assistance program efforts.
    • Collaborates on site-specific interventions, helping Lodge volunteers understand, address the concerns, and meet the social service needs of their constituents.
    • Provide case consultation and community resource referrals to volunteers.
    • Provide metrics for program evaluation and tracking the success of training efforts.
  • Preceptor/Field Supervisor for 1 or 2 MSW Interns:
    • Connect with USC School of Social Work partners to become a Certified Field Instructor through their program. Learns the existing Masonic Homes Social Work internship program. Works with Care Managers to thoughtfully build internal caseloads. Successfully manages the school's requirements with the MH program's demands.
    • Serve as a preceptor/field supervisor for MSW interns, supporting their development as the next generation of social workers through their work with Masonic Homes and programs and completing additional Field Supervisor Training.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Efficient in all Microsoft Office programs, semi-advanced in presentation applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, MS Word, MS Outlook, and Adobe Extended Pro. Prefer a background in Salesforce, Zoom, and social media platforms.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated experience as an effective and engaging speaker and trainer.
  • Ability to connect well with others, build positive relationships, and work with multiple teams.
  • Background in managing, mentoring or training staff in social service settings.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and other presentation software. Demonstrate proficiency in quickly adapting to other software, specifically Salesforce.
  • Must be creative, self-motivated, customer service-oriented, and knowledgeable about the complex issues affecting older adults and their families.
  • Proven capability and background in creating processes to ensure high-quality training across multiple venues, including social media platforms.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities listed, typically:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, at least 2 years post-graduate
  • Two or more years of post-graduate work in case management or community outreach, program development or training. Geriatric, group facilitation, and education experience preferred.
  • Must have and keep a valid California driver’s license with no restrictions, be willing to travel throughout the state by car and/or plane, including some overnight stays.
