Smith Ready Mix, Inc. Production Assistant – New Carlisle, IN

Since 1949 Smith Ready Mix, Inc. has been a leading producer of ready mix concrete in Northern Indiana and is dedicated to the highest quality and service in the industry. We have immediate openings for Laborer/Production Assistants at our New Carlisle, IN location.

These positions are full time seasonal jobs with an estimated job duration of April 1 to December 1. There is a possibility that successful applicants may be recalled for the 2022 season. There is also a possibility that successful applicants will be converted to permanent full-time employees.

Salary range of these positions is $18.00/hour to $22.00/hour dependent upon skills and abilities.

Functional Responsibilities:

• Perform general labor duties as assigned including but not limited to sweeping, shoveling, mowing, lifting, carrying.
• Adhere to all Smith and OSHA rules and regulations always and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
• Meet or exceed company safety standards.
• Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• Must be hard working, punctual and dependable.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must provide own safety boots.
• Knowledge of operating a skid steer is helpful but not required.
• Be able to read, write, and speak English.
• High School diploma preferred.

Working conditions and Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
• Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors.
• Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
• Heavy Work-Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls.
