We are currently looking for a Legal Assistant in the Orlando, FL area.

The Legal Assistant plays a vital role in supporting our attorneys and paralegals, particularly in the areas of family and criminal law. This position requires a detail-oriented, proactive, and highly organized individual capable of delivering high-quality legal and administrative support in a fast-paced, high volume, and confidential environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent client service with strong communication skills, quality work with diligence, and the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Draft, format, edit, and proofread pleadings, correspondence, and legal documents specific to family and criminal law matters.
  • File legal documents in local, state, and federal courts including e-filing through designated court systems.
  • Maintain and organize digital and physical case files in accordance with firm protocols.
  • Monitor court deadlines and ensure timely filings and scheduling of hearings and client appointments.
  • Assist Attorneys/Paralegals with discovery preparation, document management, subpoenas, and trial preparation.
  • Input and update contact and case information using the firm’s case management system (e.g., Smokeball).
  • Properly categorize, name, and protect documents using metadata and password protocols per firm policy.
  • Schedule hearings, deposition, mediation, and client meetings at the request of Attorneys/Paralegals.
  • Serve as a professional and responsive point of contact for clients in the absence of attorneys or paralegals.
  • Schedule client consultations, prepare intake documents, and support onboarding of new clients.
  • Keep clients informed on case developments and upcoming court dates in a timely manner.
  • Manage sensitive communications related to domestic, criminal, or emotionally charged matters with empathy and professionalism.
  • Maintain attorneys’ calendars, including hearings, depositions, meetings, and deadlines.
  • Coordinate internal meetings and external communications with courts, opposing counsel, and service providers.
  • Review and manage incoming mail, email, and voicemails; route and respond as appropriate.
  • Assist with billing, expense tracking, and payment processing for legal services.
  • Support office-wide operations including filing systems, supply inventory, and documentation protocols.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant with a focus in family law and/or criminal law .
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with expert-level knowledge of Word and strong skills in Excel and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with e-filing procedures and legal calendaring systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong grammar and legal terminology.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven legal environment.
