Job Title: Plumbing Engineer – Design & Project Management (Licensed PE)

Location: Austin, TX

Job Type: Contract

Department: Engineering / MEP Design

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Plumbing Engineer to join a growing team, with a primary focus on plumbing system design and project management. This role involves working collaboratively with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality plumbing designs for commercial, residential, and industrial projects. A Professional Engineering (PE) license will be required for sealing drawings.

Responsibilities:

Plumbing System Design

  • Design plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and specialty systems (e.g., medical gas, grease waste).
  • Prepare design calculations, layouts, and construction documentation using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Ensure all designs comply with the latest codes (IPC, UPC, NFPA, ADA, local codes).

Project Management

  • Lead plumbing design efforts across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Develop project schedules, manage design deliverables, and monitor progress against milestones.
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams, clients, and contractors throughout design and construction phases.

Professional Engineering Responsibilities

  • Review and seal plumbing drawings and specifications in compliance with state licensing regulations.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) on applicable projects.
  • Provide oversight for permitting processes and jurisdictional approvals.
  • Interpret and resolve complex code-related issues and provide technical guidance to clients and stakeholders.
  • Lead internal design reviews, ensuring technical accuracy and constructability.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare and review detailed construction documents, technical specs, and RFI responses.
  • Conduct field visits, punch lists, and site inspections as needed within the state of Texas.
  • Maintain thorough project documentation and contribute to post-project evaluations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or related field.
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license in Texas (required)
  • 5+ years of experience in plumbing design and project management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and plumbing calculation software.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant codes (IPC, UPC, NFPA, LEED, ADA, local regulations).
  • Strong communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills.
  • CPD or LEED AP certification is a plus.
