Retirement Projects Consultant
Location: San Rafael, CA
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days remote)
Compensation: $156,000–$190,000 DOE
Role Overview
The Retirement Projects Consultant will lead and support enterprise-wide retirement and benefits initiatives, including plan consolidations, vendor transitions, and compliance efforts across multiple entities and employee groups. This role is ideal for a seasoned benefits professional with strong project management skills and deep knowledge of retirement plan administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead retirement plan consolidations, vendor transitions, and implementation projects from planning to execution.
- Partner with internal teams, brokers, and vendors to ensure alignment with compliance and operational goals.
- Provide subject matter expertise on defined contribution and defined benefit plans.
- Manage plan amendments, restatements, and regulatory filings (ERISA, IRS, DOL).
- Analyze plan data and vendor performance to identify improvements and support decision-making.
- Coordinate with payroll, HRIS, and finance to ensure accurate processing of deductions, remittances, and reconciliations.
- Support Retirement Plan Committee (RPC) activities, including meeting prep and follow-ups.
- Contribute to benefits-related projects such as system integrations, process redesigns, and communication rollouts.
- Maintain awareness of plan design elements and eligibility requirements.
- Assist with ad hoc benefits initiatives and transition planning.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required
- CEBS, QPA, or similar certifications preferred
Experience
- 5+ years in retirement plan administration
- 5+ years in full-cycle benefits management
- 3+ years working with retirement recordkeeping platforms (e.g., Fidelity, Voya, Principal, T. Rowe Price)
- Proven project management experience
Skills & Knowledge
- Deep understanding of defined contribution and defined benefit plans
- Strong grasp of ERISA, IRS, DOL regulations
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); advanced Excel preferred
- Familiarity with HRIS and vendor reporting tools
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
