Role Description

This is a part-time on-site role for a Teacher Assistant in Buffalo, NY, and the surrounding area. The Teacher Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the educational initiatives of FATE, particularly within our flagship project, Bits & Bytes STEM, which is a traveling, hands-on STEM Project. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about education and community empowerment, eager to help bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to essential skill development for students in grades PreK -8.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support Instruction: Assist the Lead Educator in delivering engaging and culturally relevant STEM and digital literacy lesson plans. Facilitate hands-on learning experiences that resonate with students.
• Student Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment by encouraging student participation and collaboration. Build relationships with students to enhance their confidence and self-esteem.
• Resource Management: Help organize and distribute educational materials and resources for lessons and activities. Ensure that all materials are prepared and available for each session.
• Assessment Assistance: Support the assessment and tracking of student progress, providing feedback to the Lead Educator on individual and group performance.
• Family Engagement: Assist in outreach efforts to engage families in their children's education. Support family workshops and events that promote social-emotional learning and digital literacy.
• Administrative Support: Maintain accurate records of attendance, materials used, and student achievements. Assist with administrative tasks as needed to support program operations.
• Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to education, mental health, and community engagement.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in education, child development, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with children or in educational settings, especially in underserved communities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge or interest in STEM fields, digital literacy, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to the needs of the program and the students.
