Job Description
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the flow of all products to include inbound shipments/receipts, customer shipments, interplant shipments, inter-warehouse shipments, and maintaining control of all inventory contained in the warehouse. Supervises employees in support of storage and shipping functions and outlying functions of quality inspections, equipment/facility maintenance, and warehouse sanitation.
Responsibilities
- Manage and control all receiving, storage, movements and shipments of inventory in responsible warehousing
- Create, edit and manage delivery notes utilizing the company’s ERP system (SAP).
- Freight vendor relationship management.
- Freight spend management.
- Stay on top of market trends and conditions that can affect the company’s freight activities.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) training, along with company pre-requisite programs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s),
- Following set company and OSHA safety rules, regulations, and guidelines at all times.
Team Leadership & Labor Management:
- Lead, coach, and mentor a diverse team of warehouse associates, supervisors, and forklift operators (Develop and implement staffing plans based on forecasted volume and seasonal trends.
- Oversee labor scheduling, time tracking, attendance, and payroll coordination in alignment with labor laws and company policies.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, establish clear KPIs, and manage corrective action processes when needed.
- Foster a positive and accountable team culture, emphasizing collaboration, respect, and high performance.
- Facilitate daily shift meetings, safety briefings, and ongoing staff development initiatives.
- Implement incentive programs to boost productivity, reduce absenteeism, and improve employee retention.
Warehouse Operations:
- Supervise inbound and outbound logistics including receiving, storage, order picking, packing, and shipping of food products.
- Ensure compliance with HACCP, FDA, USDA, and internal food safety guidelines.
- Manage FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expired, First Out) inventory practices to reduce waste and spoilage.
- Maintain optimal layout and organization of the warehouse to support safety, efficiency, and scalability.
- Oversee cold storage integrity, monitor temperatures, and ensure timely maintenance of refrigeration equipment.
- Enforce cleanliness and sanitation practices according to food-grade warehouse standards.
Technology & Process Optimization:
- Leverage Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and labor management tools to monitor productivity and workflow.
- Identify process gaps and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, improve accuracy, and streamline operations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, transportation, quality assurance, and customer service teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations or related strongly preferred.
- 5 years of food/beverage warehouse management in a food/beverage manufacturing environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory control, and shipping logistics.
- Understanding of food safety regulations (HACCP, USDA) and warehouse sanitation standards.
- Knowledge of inventory management practices, including FIFO and FEFO.
- Awareness of freight logistics and vendor management principles.
- Understanding of continuous improvement and lean warehousing practices.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, mentor, and manage warehouse staff, including supervisors and forklift operators.
- Familiarity with labor laws and best practices in labor scheduling, time tracking, and payroll coordination.
- Ability to foster a positive and accountable team culture.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with internal teams and external vendors.
- Ability to assess operations, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvements.
- Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks in a high-paced, dynamic environment.
- Capable of leading improvement initiatives and managing change effectively.
- Skilled in promoting and enforcing OSHA and company safety guidelines.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple functions simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational challenges.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Proficient personal computer skills (MS office applications – Word, Office, Excel)
